

Devarshi Steven Hartman is the author of The Three Essentials: Timeless Yogic Principles for Inner Peace and Self-Transformation, as well as two best-selling audio programs, The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita and The Simple Secrets of Inner Peace.
Based in Maui, Hawaii, Devarshi writes, teaches, and guides transformative retreats, yoga teacher trainings, and a private practice in spiritual counsel. He is the founder of the Pranotthan Yoga School and has led 200- and 500-hour Yoga Certification Programs across the country for decades. Since 1974, he has been immersed in the study and practice of yoga and yoga philosophy, including nearly a decade living in an ashram. From 2004–2014, he served as Director of Professional Trainings and Dean of the Kripalu School of Yoga. Over the years, his Kripalu Yoga DVD has been viewed by more than 300,000 people, and he has personally trained and certified more than 4,500 yoga teachers.
Devarshi’s passion is human transformation—the mystery of how people awaken to their highest selves. His own journey has taken him into decades of yoga practice and spiritual study, complemented by powerful experiences in personal growth arenas including EST, Lifespring, LifeStream, ARAS, The New Warrior Training, The Mankind Project and the Avatar Master/Wizard programs. Since 1976 he has also been a dedicated student and teacher of A Course in Miracles. His time at Kripalu Center placed him at the crossroads of contemporary yoga, offering the opportunity to learn from nearly every leading yoga teacher of the past three decades, and to gather a treasury of transformational tools that continue to inspire his work.
Today, Devarshi teaches at world-renowned centers such as Omega Institute in New York, Esalen Institute in California, and other beloved studios and retreat spaces around the country. At home in Maui, he offers private sessions in Yoga Therapy, Spiritual Support, Transformational Breathwork, and Bodywork. He lives with his beloved partner Kaki, shares a retreat center and hibiscus farm with his son Patrick, and treasures visits with his daughter September in Los Angeles. Each summer, Devarshi and Kaki spend time in New England, continuing to weave community and share the teachings that light their lives.
